DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?
Often there is a slight electrical sensation when the needle first enters the body. Some people describe the feeling as a slight “pricking” sensation, a gentle throbbing, a feeling of heaviness or a rushing of energy. It’s nothing like getting a shot at the doctor’s office.
WHAT IF I AM AFRAID OF NEEDLES?
Acupuncture needles are super thin and most patients describe only mild sensations when being needled. If you still are not comfortable I offer several modalities that do not use needles at all and still are very effective. Just let me know and we can discuss different options available to you. Most people find acupuncture very relaxing once they try it.
IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE?
Yes, acupuncture is very safe when performed by a Licensed Acupuncturist. We follow stringent rules set forth by the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM) that demand the highest standards of cleanliness. All needles come in sterilized packages and are intended for one-time use only.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The answer to this depends on the individual. Together we will discuss a viable treatment plan based on your needs and goals. I usually suggest 5-12 treatments depending on the condition. Generally, chronic issues take longer to resolve, while acute issues may need more frequent visits at first.
WHY DO YOU RECOMMEND FREQUENT OR REGULAR VISITS?
There are a variety of factors involved here, including the nature of imbalance and your personal health goals. Some people feel immediate relief or the decrease in symptoms with each treatment, while other chronic-type conditions may take longer to resolve. There is no “magic-wand” effect. Acupuncture works by slowly changing the way your body is balanced, which usually does not happen with just one treatment. Once your body has learned to be in balance again, maintenance treatments are useful to help it stay that way.
HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT TAKE?
Your first treatment generally takes 90 minutes. I will do a comprehensive medical intake interview with you to establish your health history and treatment goals. Then I will do a digital diagnosis, which will show any imbalances and their location. Your first treatment includes this digital diagnosis. Follow-up treatments thereafter run 30-45 minutes.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY TREATMENT?
Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Also, please, avoid heavy lotion on your body.
WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER MY TREATMENT?
Drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous activities, avoid alcohol, and eat smaller meals.
